Ever tried to be green and still ran out of ideas after trying everything you can think of? Do not worry, because here is a long list of 50 ways you can go green! There has to be at least one that you haven’t tried!
- Recycle electronics
- Use recycled products
- Use recyclable products
- Buy local foods
- Pay attention to organic labels
- Re-use plastic bags
- Bring your own grocery bags
- Switch to solar panels for energy
- Drink filtered tap water instead of buying bottled water
- Start composting or have a compost bin in the house
- Wash clothes in cold water when it is possible
- Hang dry instead of machine dry
- Unplug electronics when not in use
- Insulate doors and windows well in winter for less loss of heat
- Eat less meat, or go complete vegan (must be a healthy vegan diet!)
- Use fans instead of air conditioner, or even better, just open the windows if it is not too hot
- Carpool whenever possible
- Ride bikes if distance traveled is short
- Donate unbroken items in the house to thrift stores or charity instead of throwing them away
- Sweep the floor using brooms instead of vacuums
- Fix faucet leaks as soon as you find them
- Drive hybrid cars
- Donate to environmental charities
- Avoid littering
- Read newspaper online
- Turn off lights when not in the house
- Replace regular light bulbs with energy-efficient bulbs (compact fluorescent bulbs)
- Turn water heater off when no one is at home, or the whole family is on vacation
- Grow plants at home
- Use water saving shower heads
- Avoid buying food from drive through windows
- Use laptops instead of desktop computers
- Print double sided
- Teach children to be green when they are young
- Buy in bulks to save cardboard for packaging
- Barbeque with propane instead of coal
- Buy a toilet that can flush with different amount of water for different scenarios
- Travel by public transits
- Go to professional car wash instead of washing your own car to save water
- Pick up litters from the street when you see them
- Scrape ice off of car windows in winters instead of depending completely on heating the car
- Do full loads when using dishwashers
- Only wash full loads when using washing machine
- Use natural pesticide rather than chemicals
- Buy long lasting products instead of “one-time” products
- Use rechargeable batteries
- Switch to online billing instead of mailed bills
- Switch from answering machines to voice mail services
- Shower instead of taking a bath
